Follow Bro-neko through Thailand, with room for little discoveries.
Phuket is not one beach, and not every hotel opens onto Old Town. Separate the southeastern town area from the west-coast beaches before planning three days. This land-based framework leaves boat excursions as an optional, separately checked booking rather than a prerequisite for a good trip.
- Time to allow
- 3 usable sightseeing days; shorten around flights
- A good fit for
- First-time Phuket visitors mixing town and coast
Which option fits your day?
- Phuket Old Town
- Best for
Shophouses, food, cafés and town walks
Keep in mindNot a beach base; allow transport to the west coast
- Patong
- Best for
A beach stay with concentrated commercial facilities
Keep in mindCheck room noise, the actual walk and sea conditions
- Karon / Kata
- Best for
A slower trip focused on a selected beach
Keep in mindDo not assume the areas form a continuous easy seafront walk
Old Town: shophouses and everyday life
Thailand’s tourism authority highlights Old Town’s shophouses, heritage and food. Choose a short stretch around Thalang and Dibuk Roads and one meal, then explore nearby. Attractive façades may still be private homes or working businesses. The Sunday walking street is date-specific; an ordinary weekday offers a different experience.
West-coast beaches: choose one near your base
Patong suits travellers wanting commercial facilities nearby; research Karon and Kata as a different beach-area option. These are not one continuous pedestrian neighbourhood. Follow local flags and instructions, and enjoy the coast from land when conditions do not suit swimming. A publicity photograph cannot establish safe snorkelling or guarantee sunset.

The airport and Phuket Smart Bus publish different routes, including the airport–Rawai west-coast service, a town–Patong connection and a city shuttle. Match the exact hotel address to a stop, direction and operating window. An “airport bus” label does not mean a direct ride to every Old Town hotel. Compare buses and pre-arranged road transfers for luggage or late arrival.
Choose a base and group the cross-island day
For daily seaside rest, base yourself near your chosen beach and group Old Town into one outing. For architecture and cafés, consider a town base with one full coast day. Reduce the plan when flights leave only two usable days. Check official weather before adding marine activities and keep the land plan if sailings are cancelled.
A route for your travel notebook.
- DAY 1 · Settle into your base
Accommodation → nearby meal → short local walk
Shorten for late arrival rather than crossing the island for a sight.
- DAY 2 · Old Town
One Thalang/Dibuk stretch → café break → another street or confirmed indoor stop
Swap with beach day for a town base; verify Sunday events separately.
- DAY 3 · One beach area
Chosen beach → lunch and rest → shore time as conditions allow
Save the hotel or airport return and avoid a sunset-to-flight rush.
A sequence, not a scale map. Check travel time, tickets and reservations separately.
The practical details, paw-marked.
- Base choice
- Choose town or one beach base; a short stay does not require nightly hotel changes.
- Route check
- Check official routes, stops, hours and notices; fares and travel times may change.
- Weather alternative
- Use confirmed indoor venues in storms and follow local and operator notices for coast or boat activities.
Before you go
- Old Town mixes shops and homes; ask before entering or photographing people.
- For flights, allow the required airport buffer and do not treat a map estimate as guaranteed.
